Cookery Course

At the Old Rectory you will receive expert tuition with an infectious enthusiasm for food and cooking.  We will teach you how to create delicious meals using fresh seasonal produce, including herbs and vegetables from the kitchen garden.  The Old Rectory Cookery School offers a variety of different courses to suit everyone.

The Essential Cooks Course
This course is designed for enthusiastic cooks who want to immerse themselves in cooking to widen their repertoire and improve their skill level.  If you want a career in catering, thinking of running a pub, small hotel or B&B or want to gain skills necessary to get a job in a gap year running a ski chalet or working on a yacht, then this is the course for you.

Workshops
Do your cakes fail to rise to the occasion?  Is pastry a problem or does a whole fish seem like a daunting challenge?  If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then these workshops are for you.  At the end of the session you will enjoy a lunch that you have helped prepare with your fellow students.

Cookery Demonstrations
Come along and watch a demonstration.  Enjoy the relaxed and friendly atmosphere and share our enthusiasm for food as we show you how to prepare a superb selection of dishes.  Arrive at 10am for coffee and homemade biscuits and then at the end of the morning you will be able to taste all the demonstrated dishes.

Student Survival Course
Learn the skills for feeding yourself healthily with quick, inexpensive but delicious meals.  Four days packed full of practical cooking including preparing lunch each days in a fun, supportive atmosphere.  By the end of the course, you will be well equipped for independent living.

Young Cooks Courses
It’s important that children and young people learn how to cook, try new flavours and learn about ingredients.  In our small groups they will be taught safety in the kitchen together with food hygiene and how to wash up

The 7-11 age group spend the morning cooking and preparing dishes to take home.  The over 12s spend the morning preparing lunch, which they eat together as a group.  The afternoon is spent cooking something to take home.

Private Groups and Corporate Events
We can organise demonstrations or hands-on days to suit your requirements
