FoodLovers teams up with RSPCA Freedom Food
FoodLovers Britain believes that for quality food, every aspect of production – from farm to fork – needs to be in place. One important component is higher standards of farm animal welfare and this is where the RSPCA‘s Freedom Food comes into play.

The RSPCA’s farm assurance and food labelling scheme, Freedom Food, encourages farmers to adopt and maintain higher welfare standards and encourages consumers to reward them for their efforts by buying Freedom Food labelled products.
The Freedom Food Farm Assurance Scheme, dedicated to farm animal welfare, where animals are reared to RSPCA standards. Under the scheme farm animals are reared to the RSPCA welfare standards that are based upon the following five freedoms as defined by the Farm Animal Welfare Council
- Freedom from hunger and thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour
- Freedom from discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area
- Freedom from pain, injury or disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment
- Freedom to express normal behaviour - by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind
- Freedom from fear and distress - by ensuring conditions and care which avoid mental suffering
Farm Animal Week is 19-25 October 2009
